Abstract

Background: This study was to investigate the effect of the multimodal non-pharmacological intervention which included core exercise, manual therapy, and pain reeducation (CMPE) therapy to improve the non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP) associated to occupational risks. Methods: Fourteen coworkers with NSCLBP related with occupational risk, were submitted to the CMPE therapy, for 4 weeks in a prospective study. All coworkers completed the questionnaires, before and after treatment. Results: CMPE therapy produced a decrease in pain score from 5 (5-6) to 2 (1-3), the index of disabling from 7 (5.5-11) to 2 (0-4), Kinesio-phobia from 23.29 ± 5.85 to 15.79 ± 3.28 (*P<0.001), while sleep quality was improved from 6.07 ± 0.07 to 3.57 ± 1.65 (*P<0.001). Moreover, the role-limited physical, the social function and the bodily pain were improved. Conclusions: CMPE therapy decreases the NCLBP associated with occupational risk and improves the quality of life and performance of workers. Trial registration: ISRCTN79081718
