Resumen

Introduction: Psychosomatic stress in university professors is a significant occupational health problem, frequently associated with sedentary lifestyles. Evidence suggests that physical activity may play a protective role against these manifestations. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between physical activity level and the intensity of psychosomatic stress symptoms in university professors. Materials and methods: We conducted an analytical cross-sectional study with 188 university professors. We administered the World Health Organization's Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) and the Seppo Aro Stress Symptom Scale. Statistical analysis included chi-square tests to determine associations between variables. Results: We found that 41% of participants had low or no physical activity, while 32.4% reported high psychosomatic stress symptoms. We identified a statistically significant association between the two variables (χ²=26; p<0.001), indicating an inverse relationship. Conclusions: we concluded that physical activity is significantly associated with psychosomatic stress symptoms in university teachers. The role of physical activity as a health promotion strategy in academic work environments is supported, and a proposal of physical activity is presented.
