Resumen


Introduction: The lifting, or hoisting, by using mobile cranes is one of the most hazardous processes in the construction industry, is a critical procedure for the safety and logistics in construction projects. The most frequent failure scenarios are those regarding to the misinterpretation of the load charts, causing the overload of the crane, and consequently, several human and material losses.


Method: The proposed method is an alternative for the calculation of the boom length in mobile cranes. While one of the cited authors, proposes more analytical methods based on theoretical criteria, or crane specifications, the method proposed in this paper is set from an operative perspective, where the field variables are not under control of the user. The proposed method could be adapted to different field conditions and cranes.
