Resumen

Abstract This case summary demonstrates the importance of follow-up in workers exposed to asbestos fibers and its relationship with pleural mesothelioma years after exposure using tumor markers and CT image control. These diseases have as a common etiological agent asbestos fiber. The history of asbestos is described from its use by Cypriots to make clothing 5,000 years ago to its industrial involvement in the 1870s and its ban on discovery as a cause of asbestosis, lung cancer, and pleural mesothelioma. In Mexico, 90% chrysotile is used to manufacture fiber cement products for construction and components for friction, heating and textile parts. The clinical, radiological, histological and functional aspects of asbestosis and pleural mesothelioma are analyzed, as well as their treatment and prevention. The latency period of both asbestosis and pleural mesothelioma varies from 20 to 40 years, which is why we face an epidemic of pleural mesothelioma in Mexico in the next 50 years. The only effective prevention of asbestosis and malignant pleural mesothelioma is a ban on industries that use asbestos. Key words: Asbestosis, Mesothelioma, medical follow
