Characteristics and comorbidities of patients with COVID-19, who are under follow-up by the Auxiliary Coordination of Epidemiological Surveillance in the IMSS Coahuila delegation
Abstract
Introduction: In March 2020, the first COVID-19 case was presented in IMSS Coahuila; Restrictions in activities influenced the development of the pandemic but not the characteristics of the patients.Objectives: Describe characteristics and comorbidities of patients with COVID-19 under follow-up by the Auxiliary Coordination of Epidemiological Surveillance, IMSS Coahuila delegation.
Methodology: Descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, ambiespective study; convenience sample, IMSS Coahuila monitoring (March 2020 to March 2021).
Ethical considerations: No ethical implications.
Results: 107,364 people evaluated; 62,915 workers, other beneficiaries; 32,365 (30%) confirmed cases, 8,471 (26%) hospitalized, 4,910 died (57%); mortality rate higher than the national one. Average age in outpatients 35 years, hospitalized 43 years and deaths 53 years. Female sex predominated in outpatients (51%) and male in hospitalized (57%). Chronic disease in 56% of hospitalized cases, hypertension 43.2%, diabetes 35.4% and obesity 15.5%.
Discussion: Results showed a similar behavior than in other studies, except for the mortality of our hospitalized population.
Conclusions: Chronic degenerative disease does not influence mortality, (56%), but the age of the patient (10 years more in hospitalized deceased than those discharged due to improvement)
