Computer Visual Syndrome evaluation in an office worker population of a government company in Mexico City / Evaluación del Síndrome Visual por Computadora en una población de oficinistas de una empresa gubernamental en la Ciudad de México

Resumen

Introduction: Prolonged use of the computer in administrative work is frequent and can cause Computer Visual Syndrome (CVS) which has been little studied in office workers, then the objective of this work was to evaluate the presence of CVS and its associated factors in a group of office workers.


Methods: Sociodemographic data and the working conditions of 70 office workers were collected. CVS was detected with the Computer Vision Symptom Scale (CVSS17) and ocular surface damage was assessed using the tear film break-up time test. Results: CVS was present in all office workers, detecting ocular surface damage in 90% of workers. CVS was associated with the use of more than 7 h of the computer per day.


Conclusions: The CVS occurred in 100% of office workers and was associated with prolonged use of the computer. Keywords: Computer Visual Syndrome, Office workers, computer-vision symptom scale questionnaire
